Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca opens door for Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka to leave club in January. Neither player has played in the Premier League this season. And was not in Maresca’s squad for the Conference League and Carabao Cup. The latter of which the Stamford Bridge club were already eliminated from.

Left-back Chilwell, who started for England in friendlies against Brazil and Belgium in March. Before missing Euro 2024, was told in August he was not in Maresca’s plans. However, the return never materialised, with Chukwuemeka, 21, who joined from Aston Villa for £20million in January 2023, making just one substitute appearance in the Conference League, not being included in the side that thrashed Shamrock 5-1 on Thursday.

“There are players who are unlucky not to play for us in all competitions, like Chilwell or Carney,” Maresca said.

“They’re probably the first ones to want to leave because they work every day because they want to play. If they didn’t play, they would think about leaving anyway.”

“Each player has a different situation, so we will see if someone comes knocking on the door and says they want to leave. We will try to find a solution.”
